Have you ever tasted Homemade Lahmacun Turkish Pizza? I asked myself that question the first time I visited a Turkish restaurant, and I fell in love after the very first bite. I never traveled to Turkey, but I explored Turkish cuisine in my own city. Every dish impressed me with its flavor, yet the Turkish pizza, also known as lahmacun, captured my heart instantly. Thin, crispy, and loaded with spiced meat, it delivered a flavor I had never experienced before.
I adore everything about Turkey the culture, the food, even the language. My own name, Inji, carries a sweet connection to Turkish. In Turkish, the name “İnci” means “pearl.” They pronounce the letter “c” as “j,” so my name transforms into İnci. This beautiful meaning inspired me to name my site Inji’s Kitchen, and I also use the same name on my Steemit account. Every time I cook or write, that name reminds me of the sparkle and value of a pearl.
Since I love trying new recipes at home, I couldn’t resist making my own version of Homemade Lahmacun Turkish Pizza. The process excited me from the start. I prepared a simple dough and rolled it out very thin, almost paper-like. For the topping, I mixed ground meat with tomato, onion, parsley, and fragrant spices. I spread the mixture evenly over the dough and baked it in a hot oven until the edges turned crisp.
When I pulled the pizza out, the aroma filled my kitchen, and I felt proud of myself. I squeezed fresh lemon over the top, rolled the pizza with some greens, and enjoyed every bite. The balance of meat, herbs, and spice created a harmony that kept me reaching for another piece.
If you try making Turkish pizza at home, you will feel the same joy. The recipe doesn’t take much effort, but the result will amaze you. Cooking brings cultures closer, and with every dish, we connect to stories and traditions beyond our own.

Ingredients
- 5 Cups all purpos flour
- 1 Tbsp yeast
- ½ Tbsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 4 Tbsp yogurt
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Cup warm water
For meat topping:
- 250 g Minced meat
- 2 grated medium tomatoes
- 1 grated sweet pepper i mixed green with red sweet pepper
- 1 Finely chopped parsley
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp tomato paste
- 1 Tsp paprika
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 Tsp Salt or to taste
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, place all the dough ingredients. I prefer to add the water gradually so the dough doesn’t become too sticky.
- Knead the dough until it turns smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rest for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a food processor, grate the onion, sweet pepper, and tomatoes. Finely chop the parsley as well.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat with the grated vegetables, parsley, tomato paste, and spices. Mix everything thoroughly with your hands until well combined.
- Once the dough has risen, take a small ball of dough, sprinkle some flour on your work surface, and roll it out thin with a rolling pin.
- Spread about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture over the dough, smoothing it out evenly with the back of a spoon.
- Heat a large pan and cook the pizza for about 5 minutes with the lid on. This step helps the base cook through.
- Transfer the pizza to a hot oven and bake for 2 more minutes until the edges turn golden. This extra step adds a deeper flavor, though some people skip it—I never do!
- Serve hot with fresh parsley, lemon wedges, or a crisp salad on the side.
- Enjoy your homemade Turkish pizza!
