Ingredients

  • For the Dough:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 110 g melted butter
  • ¾ cup warm whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • ¾ tbsp salt
  • For the Egg Wash:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp milk
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds optional
  • 1 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Give it a quick stir and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate the yeast.
  • Beat the egg, then add it to the milk mixture along with the melted butter, salt, and flour.
  • Using a dough hook attachment, knead all the ingredients for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes elastic and slightly sticky.
  • Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Lightly grease the top of the dough with olive oil. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, each weighing about 70 g.
  • Place the dough balls in a 13x9-inch Pyrex baking dish. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise again for another hour, or until they double in size.
  • In a small bowl, mix the egg and milk for the egg wash. Brush the tops of the rolls with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 25 minutes, or until the rolls turn golden brown.
  • Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter to give them a shiny, soft finish.
